God’s patience means this: God is long-suffering toward sinners.
He is not quick-tempered.
He is not impulsive.
He is not waiting for the smallest failure so He can strike.
God’s patience is His holy restraint, His willingness to endure rebellion, weakness, and slowness while giving time for repentance, growth, and mercy.
And God’s patience does not stand alone. It flows from
everything else He is.
Because God is holy, His patience never means He is indifferent to sin.
Because God is just, His patience never cancels accountability.
Because God is merciful, His patience gives sinners time to turn.
Because God is gracious, His patience gives what we do not deserve.
Because God is wise, His timing is never careless.
Because God is immutable, His patience is not unstable emotion.
And because God is sovereign, His patience never threatens His purposes.
God’s patience is not weakness. It is strength under perfect control. It is mercy held out over time. It is the kindness of God giving room for repentance.
So when God delays judgment, He is not ignoring evil. When He bears with sinners, He is not approving sin. His restraint reveals His mercy, His wisdom, and His desire that people turn and live.
That is the sobering comfort and glory of God’s patience.
