God’s Love

Do you know God’s love? If you do, then why don’t you do the same thing King David did in Psalm 57:9-11.

I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations;
I will sing of you among the peoples.
For great is your love, reaching to the heavens;
your faithfulness reaches to the skies.
Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;
let your glory be over all the earth.

Think about it. If we really love the Lord, then we will praise Him among the nations. One thing about the internet is that what we post can be read, heard, or seen all around the world among all nations.

If I were to sing then it would certainly go viral and be heard among all peoples, but I want it to be about my Lord Jesus, not because people laughing at my terrible singing voice.

The reason that I will praise and sing is because of the Lord’s great love. It reaches to the heavens. It isn’t about my love for the Lord but His love for me and for you. That love is found in Jesus Christ, who loved us so much that He died on the cross to take away the sins that separate us from His Father, the Lord God Almighty.

His faithfulness reaches to the skies. What a picture of how faithful our Lord is. He is faithful to keep every one of His promises. When He promises eternal life to us through Jesus Christ, we can be sure of being with Him in heaven.

The skies have limits, so it is only appropriate to say the God is exalted beyond and above even the heavens. So, the prayer of all who are saved through the blood of Jesus is that the glory of God be over all the earth so that everyone will know He is the Lord.

Good & Bad News

The Word of God often brings good news and bad news within a few verses. Psalm 52 is a good example. Verse one sets the tone for this short Psalm.  

Why do you boast of evil, O mighty man?
The steadfast love of God endures all the day.

Look at the contrast as David asks an evil man why he boasts but affirms that God’s love is steadfast. We are told that this guy is evil primarily because he is lying, plotting evil, and verbally cutting down people. But that’s not all, he trusts in his riches instead of God. But David reminds him of God in verse five.

But God will break you down forever;
He will snatch and tear you from your tent;
He will uproot you from the land of the living.

Judgment will come for evil people. They die and they are gone. But there is still eternity and where will they be then? Let’s just put it this way, it is better if you don’t go there. It is better to do as David says in verse eight, “I trust in the steadfast love of God forever and ever.” He brings us back to the good news that those who trust in the Lord for their salvation will be wrapped up in His love for eternity.

Sing to the Lord

Why should we sing to the Lord? And what should we sing about? Here is what David said in Psalm 30 verses 4 and 5.

Sing to the Lord, you saints of his;  praise his holy name.
For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime;
weeping may remain for a night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.

We sing to the Lord because this is what the Bible tells us to do. When we sing to him, we are to sing songs that praise his holy name. This doesn’t mean that is the only things we can sing about, but our highest and best songs should be praising his name.

To do that we must remember that the Lord is often angry with us when we sin against him. But when we repent of those sins, we are assured that his favor lasts forever. We know this because Jesus has taken the eternal punishment for our sins. In place of our sins, he gives us his eternal life imputed to us.

This psalm points us to Jesus who died and his disciples wept for a night. But their rejoicing came in the morning when Jesus was resurrected. That is the way our life is when we turn to Jesus for salvation. We weep over our sins and ask for forgiveness. Then he gives us joy in know he has forgiven us.

Then we sing to the Lord praising the name of Jesus.

What Is Your Desire?

If you could ask God for one thing and it would be granted, what would it be? Here is what David asked in Psalm 27 verse 4.

One thing have I asked of the Lord,
that will I seek after:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord
and to inquire in his temple.

Think about that for a while. What is your aim in life? Is it to seek the Lord and see him?

This isn’t talking about some kind of mystical vision. Yes, it is poetic and if we really think about this, then what he was asking for was eternal life with God in his heavenly temple as an awareness of God’s presence in his daily life.

Guess what! This is available to whoever calls on the name
of Jesus for salvation. It is available for those who seek to please the Lord Jesus by repenting from sin and living for him by the power of the Holy Spirit.
